Women: The Backbone of History
March 6, 2023
During the month of March, the United States, Australia, and the United Kingdom celebrate and recognize the women who have done amazing things for society in history and the upcoming future. National Women’s History Month was first a one-week celebration started in Santa Rosa, California, in 1978. Presidents have celebrated this week until 1987 when Congress passed Public Law 100-9 to make National Women’s History celebration a month-long event. Every year since 1995, presidents have made proclamations announcing the month of March as Womens History Month.
The theme for March 2023 is “Embracing Equity”, where people will be “celebrating the women who tell our stories.” Women throughout history have phenomenal stories from their lives that have changed the way we live and treat people to this day.
