Ball High School hosted their annual Beach Run, the premier cross country meet in the state of Texas. More than forty schools from Texas participated in the best little cross-country race in the country. In past years, teams from as far away as California, Arkansas and Louisiana have made the trip to Galveston Island to race in the Beach Run.
The Tors field young teams in both the boy and girl teams, but that didn’t stop two young freshmen from soaring to the tops of the standings with their incredible efforts.
Freshmen Miguel Mendoza finished 4th in the varsity boys’ race with a time of 19:06: and freshmen Maddilynn Scott finished 5th in the varsity girls’ race with a time of 23:19. Thomas Hearring and Ryan Pryor finished in the top 10 in the freshman boys’ race. The Varsity boys’ and JV girl teams finished in the top 10. The Ball High boys’ cross-country team ranked 20th at the end of the day.
The Boys varsity cross country team finished 5th in their district meet where freshman Miguel Mendoza placed 7th overall and qualified for the regional meet. Freshman Maddilynn Scott finished 7th overall and qualified for the regional meet for the varsity girls.
Outstanding efforts by Kaden Dawson, who finished 15th overall in JV boys’ race and Laila Miller finished 11th overall in the JV girl’s race. In the freshmen race, Thomas Hearring finished 4th, Ryan Pryor 9th and Joseph Cerdas 13th.
The team also competed at the Dobie Longhorn Stampede where Thomas Hearing Tors with a time of 12:40 in the freshman 3200-meter finals while Miguel Mendoza earned a 2nd place finish with a time of 16:53 in the 5000 meter run finals.
