Never underestimate the ingenuity of drug smugglers in Mexico. Border officials discovered fake watermelons from Mexico on a man’s trailer with $5 million worth of methamphetamine inside in a failed attempt to smuggle the drugs into the U.S.
The U.S. Customs and border protection officers examined a 29-year-old man’s trailer to discover the hidden methamphetamine inside of the corrupted watermelons. The officers suspected the vehicle contained contraband and when the watermelons were offloaded, the officers found 1,220 packages of methamphetamine which were inside of the fake watermelons.
Police estimated the packages of meth, weighing 4,600 pounds, to be worth about $5 million on the street. The suspects have not yet been identified.
