We know people do crazy things to escape the long arm of the law, but what one man did to avoid his responsibilities astounded authorities.
The justice system sentenced 39-year-old Jesse Kipf to 81 months in prison for hacking into a data base to fake his death to avoid paying child support. Authorities also caught Kipf trying to sell access to the systems and selling stolen data with private information on the darknet.
The police arrested him for other offenses related to identity fraud such as assigning himself as the medical certifier for the case and certifying his death using the digital signature of a doctor. This caused years to be added to his sentence along with three years of probation after his sentence.
Kipf’s outstanding child support obligations are over $100,000. Carleton S. Sheir IV, the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky, expressed that Kipf planned his scheme well, but Sheir expressed surprise that Kipf put so much effort into his crimes for such a trivial reason.
Kipf sits in prison at this moment and must serve 85% of his sentence before he can be released on probation office that will last three years.
