The Ball High JROTC cadets hosted their annual Turkey Shoot, the program’s biggest fund raiser of the year, and shooting aficionados flocked to the third-floor shooting range to try and win a turkey. A perfect score of 30 from three shots didn’t happen often, but several sharpshooters fired 29, including Principal Joe Pillar.
The cadets invited all students and teachers, as well as adult walk-ons, to test their skill with a pellet gun firing from the off-hand position (standing, holding the rifle against a shoulder).
At the end of the English I hallway and up the mysterious stairs usually fenced off to students, delicious homemade treats, for a small price, awaited students and teachers on the way to the rifle range located on the third floor.
The JROTC cadets offered everyone’s favorites: cookies, Rice Krispie treats, Creme Brule, cupcakes, and a wide variety of smaller tempting items. The purchases and Turkey Shoot fund the JROTC field trips, gatherings, and other activities. Uniformed students staffed tables and were ready to sell treats to anyone who stopped by.
Gordon’s market generously donated the turkeys to the JROTC program headed by Major Mark Knight.
First Sgt. Krause commented “it’s a surprise that everyone shot so well!”
