Everyone agrees about the horrors of war. The sad fact of the matter is that war has become even more devastating and terrifying as we advance into the 21st century.
Wars used to be fought with guns, tanks and bombs. These munitions created millions of casualties and unmeasurable amounts of grief, but new tactics seem to be even more worrisome and insidious.
The harsh transition into this new age of warfare began on September 17-18th of this year when Israel launched a series of brutal attacks on thousands of people in Lebanon. Because the mayhem unleashed in Gaza in the past year spread to Lebanon, Israel decided to put explosives in the batteries of pagers shipped to Lebanon to target specific individuals, then set them off.
“Citing US officials, the New York Times said that the pagers received messages that appeared to be coming from Hezbollah’s leadership before detonating. The messages instead appeared to trigger the devices,” the BBC stated.
This attack killed at least 56 people and reportedly wounded thousands. The next day the Israeli’s launched an attack by exploding walkie-talkies. This attack resulted in at least 20 dead and over 450 people injured.
High ranking security officials in Lebanon claimed that the technology used in these devices appeared so advanced the explosives remained “virtually undetectable.”
Some people think this quantum leap in warfare is a brilliant idea…but I believe it to be an extremely diabolical way of killing people, even though this strategy targets specific people which, in return, kills fewer innocent civilians.
“We are at the start of a new phase in the war– it requires courage, determination and perseverance,” said Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.
