It was the beginning of a new chapter, but every chapter has one that comes before it. The end of this chapter is told through tears, accompanied by joy and several hardships, and new-found friendships.
On November 21st, the end of a great football season came. For the first time in almost a decade, the Golden Tornadoes made a stand at Katy Legacy Stadium. Two great walls stood firmly on the field, reluctant to fall before the might of its opponent. But rush after rush, the walls of the Tors began to crumble. Slowly chipped away, the Tors continued to push forward despite the challenge. Through yards gained, a beacon of hope that shone brightly was eclipsed by a whistle blown.
A battle on the field was overcome by the battle of the mind once that timer buzzed. “I felt accomplished. We did something that hasn’t been done in a long time,” says Phoenix Pope. Time has run out, and a march towards what could have been ended just short of maybe. Maybe with 10 more seconds or even just 5.
Crushing victories won by leaps and bounds, losses given up by the tiniest of gaps. In each and every moment, whether there was gain or loss, it was time that became the deciding factor. That’s the reason it’s so important.
A buzzer can symbolize the end of a dream, the close of a story written by years of effort, trial and error. But the resilience learned through practice and teaching created the opportunity for memories that wouldn’t have been made without it. By putting in the effort to begin, a story was spun that became a dream for the creators of a new legacy to come.
