The Tors hosted their causeway rivals Texas City Tuesday night in what turned into a blowout win for the Tors, snapping a two-game losing streak. Final 58-34.
Ball High did their job on both ends of the floor, holding Texas City to only 12 baskets out of their 49 attempts, shooting 25 of 51.
Leading at halftime 26-19, senior Taj Petteway got the second half started with three field goals, including a monstrous fastbreak dunk off a takeaway.
Sophomore Corieon Sanders and senior London Deyon had a combined 10 points in the Tors 20-10 run in the third quarter
The Tors then made six of their first seven shots in the fourth quarter while Texas City, still in their slump, shot 2-14 to end the night.
Petteway led the way for Ball High with 16 points and eight rebounds, Sanders ended with 12 points, while Deyon added 10 points.
“The kids had a little more attention, a little more focus to their game,’’ said Ball High’s head coach Jerald Temple. “We definitely have to play some better basketball. The little things, boxing out, running the floor, contesting.
“Just not giving up so many cheap points. I thought we gave up some cheap points tonight. We were fouling jump shooters, letting them drive to the basket to score. Those things take effort.”
The Tors (4-5 in district) play Santa Fe in a must win to keep their playoff hopes alive.
