Galveston ISD is pleased to announce that Joseph Pillar from Ball High School has been named this year’s Secondary Principal of the Year and Elizabeth Murphy from Parker Elementary School has been named this year’s Elementary Principal of the Year.
Galveston ISD Superintendent Matthew Neighbors voiced his support for Mr. Pillar. “Ball High has seen improvements in graduation rates and CCMR over the past two years. More than 700 Ball students are enrolled in dual credit classes, and the SAT average for every student group outpaces state averages. Mr. Pillar is to be congratulated for leading Ball High through this resurgence from the pandemic, and we are excited for his entire Ball High leadership team and what this award means for their campus.”
Senior Malakhi Walker endorsed the choice for Principal of the Year: “He’s the only principal I’ve ever known who didn’t abuse his power.”
Junior Torin Pettaway added, “He’s chill. Pillar’s nice and he’s fair to everyone. He cares about his job and his kids.”
