The day after Easter, April 21,2025, Pope Francis, 88 years old, entered eternal rest.
Despite his health problems with double pneumonia, Pope Francis could not skip Easter Sunday and even made a public appearance outside of the Vatican wishing everybody a Happy Easter!
Around the beginning of this year, the Vatican hospitalized Pope Francis due to complications with his health. They later discharged him in April, and he continued recovering at the Casa Santa Maria, a house for priests, located in 17th century Convento in the heart of Rome.
Doctors could provide no specifics about his death, and the Vatican does not preform autopsies on popes. On February 14, doctors transferred, Pope Francis transferred to a Rome Hospital with breathing complications, leading him to cancel many events planned with the church. According to daily updates by the Vatican, he experienced repeated incidents of, “acute respiratory insufficiency.
While hospitalized, doctors diagnosed the pope with polymicrobial infection as well as mild renal insufficiency. With troubling health conditions, Physicians admitted that they’d rather hold him back from treatment so he can peacefully die, Pope Francis kept fighting but his illness prevented him from leading the Ash Wednesday services on March 5th.
The pope appeared on Easter, considered the most sacred day in the Catholic Calendar, for his final public appearance and died the next day May Pope Francis rest in peace.
