The frequency of school shootings has caused some teachers and administrators to think outside the box. Ball High counselor Jerry Edwards, history teacher Bradley Cox and administrator Scott McKee attended a License to Carry (LTC) course on April 26th, 2025.
“I’ve enjoyed spending time at the range throughout my adult life,” McKee said. “Gun safety is the responsibility of all gun owners. Safety and training never stops.”
The instructor for the class, Ball High alumnus Adrian Smith, grew up in Galveston and is the CEO of Lion Pride Firearm Training, LLC. Smith credits Mr. Keenan Muse for helping him get on the right track in high school, graduate, and pursue his dreams of building a successful firearm training business.
Smith said “Lion Pride Firearm Training, LLC is an outstanding resource for top-notch firearm education. Classes are tailored for everyone – from first-time shooters to seasoned enthusiasts – ensuring students gain the skills and knowledge to handle firearms safely and effectively.
Principal Joe Pillar announced, “No staff will carry weapons in class at Ball High.”
