
Dommaraju became the world’s youngest chess champion at just 18 years old since William Steihtz won the first championship back in 1886, making him the 18th world champion.
Born in 2006, his passion for playing chess started at the age of just seven years old. In 2018, Dommaraju won the World Youth championship at only 11 years old and won multiple gold medals at the Asian Youth Championship, both in 2018. Dommaraju also competed for requirements for the international master in 2017. At only 12 years old, he became the second youngest grand master in the history of the game.
Those are only a few of his many achievements in the chess world. Dommaraju became the world’s youngest to ever receive the title of world champion for chess. Winning against Ding Liren, the match took place between November 25th and December 12th, 2024, in Singapore, best of 14 which Dommaraju won 6.5 games to 5.5.
