On September 10, 2025, political activist, Charlie Kirk attending a Utah Valley University event for Turning Point US, was killed when a sniper shot Kirk in the neck. His father turned in Utah Valley University student Tyler Robinson when he recognized his son in photographs released by the authorities.
The shot occurred while Kirk debated a college student about mass shootings and gun violence.
I believe no person deserves to be killed for their beliefs and views. People have the right to express their opinions because we have freedom of speech protected by the Bill of Rights.
It’s frightening when people can’t express their beliefs or opinions on a certain topic without feeling fear and terror about receiving hate, violence, or backlash. People, blinded by our differences, will do anything just to prove their point, even though we are all not going to agree on everything because that’s what makes us human. People shouldn’t be forced to believe in anything. Violence solves nothing.
“If we can’t agree on anything else, we must find agreement that we don’t solve our debates with violence.” stated Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Even though many people disagree and despise Kirk, no one should make fun of his death. Kirk, husband, father, and friend didn’t deserve to be absent during his kids’ lives. Kirk had many years ahead of him to spend his life with. People don’t have to show empathy, but nobody should die because of what they believe
However, I understand Kirk made questionable statements, which I and many people disagree with; however, like Kirk and his supporters, I too believe that no one should be killed for their political beliefs.
“Political violence only leads to more political violence, and I pray with all my heart that this is the abhorrent action of mad man and not a sign of things to come,” said comedian Stephan Colbert.
