On Wednesday January 7th, a snowy morning in a residential neighborhood in Minneapolis turned much colder when ICE stormed the streets. Locals stood on their porches and gathered in the streets to protest the ICE officers’ presence. Traffic quickly backed up and the situation began to deteriorate.
After a brief confrontation, an ICE officer shot 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good in the head and killed her as she sat in her vehicle in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The shooting occurred within a mile of where the brutal murder of George Floyd took place in 2020, sending shock waves of déjà vu throughout the country. Less than 24 hours later protests and riots erupted throughout Minneapolis.
Video shows Good tried to navigate her vehicle through the crowded streets when ICE agents approached her and informed her she was blocking agents with her vehicle. The video shows Good tried to leave the scene when an officer pulled out his gun and shot her three times in the head, killing her. Good, a mother to three, born in Colorado, and not a target for ICE agents was just an innocent bystander.
The ICE agent claimed that Good tried to run over another officer and used her vehicle as a weapon and that he was “terrified for his life.” President Trump’s administration stated they “stand fully with ICE’s action.” While ICE asserts the agent’s life appeared in jeopardy, multiple videos prove otherwise.
This story has swept the nation and will be played out in our courts as the legal process continues.
