In the heart of New Orleans, ghosts of America’s formative music years flourish in New Orleans Jazz National Park. Established in 1994, the park commemorates the people, places, and influences that all played a part in creating the genre of jazz.
Although there is not a distinct day jazz was created, there is a specific place. Blossoming from a mix of blues, ragtime, big brass instruments and the influence of African American culture, jazz was born and slowly found itself creeping into the music corners of New York, Chicago, and eventually becoming one of the most prominent music genres.
The Jazz National History Park stands as an archive to the world of jazz, hosting live performances featuring local and international artist, having the park rangers provide interactive and informational experiences for visitors, and acting as a huge supporter of the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, the park works hard to keep the legacy of jazz alive, giving credit where credit is due.
