Ball High’s very best loaded up in a bus and started the long journey up to Texas’ capital, Austin. Ball High’s Choir director Mr. Larian Menifee hand selected 20 students from the “Golden Voices,” aka varsity members, to hold the honor of singing in the Texas State Capitol.
When the vocalists arrived in the City of Music, they ventured to South Congress to shop and to have a little fun the night before their big performance. The choir members then visited an indoor amusement park called Austins, complete with go karts, an indoor roller coaster, games, and many more fun events.
On the morning of the performance this musical supergroup traveled to a quaint coffee shop on the water called Mozart’s, which featured seasonal drinks, the beautiful scenery of Austin’s Colorado River and a live performance of Christmas music in a jazz style.
After enjoying their drinks at Mozart’s, the gang headed back downtown to perform at the Capitol. As they walked through the building to set up for their performance, the group stood in awe of the intricate architecture of the Capitol’s rotunda. “Even the door hinges looked cool,” said Elijah Reynolds.
Once they got settled under the rotunda, the Golden Voices began their performance, singing to any visitor that toured the Capitol that day as well as the staff. The crowd enjoyed the Christmas melodies that the Golden Voices have practiced since the beginning of school.
Once the Austin group finished singing at the Capitol, they received a private tour of the entire building while a guide explained its interesting history before they packed up and headed back to Galveston, leaving a little piece of history behind in the building of so much respect and history for all Texans.
