Baseball has arrived and The Boys of Summer hosted their own tournament over the Feb. 23rd weekend, and teams from near and far attended. Defending champion Grand Oaks returned to defend their title along with Barbers Hill, Summer Creek, Clear Creek and the Brenham Cubs who won the 5th Annual Sandbar Showdown.
Ball High Head Coach Russell Ferrall enjoyed the tournament, even if the Tors failed to capture the coveted Sandbar Showdown Surfboard trophy.
“The Tors didn’t get off to as good of a start as they wished they would have. We are dealing with a couple of injuries that didn’t help our cause. We are looking forward to our next tournament starting Thursday in Barbers Hill.”
Previously the team traveled to Ft. Bend to take on Ft. Bend Travis and Clear Falls in a three-team tournament and the Tors returned to the Island with a split.
The Tors beat Travis 6-4 and then suffered a 3-1 loss to Clear Falls. Austin Raines pitched three scoreless innings for the Tors, the first time a hurler’s gone three innings in the preseason.
The Tors take the field again Thursday at Barbers Hill with a 9 a.m. starting time.
