Soccer Season is a Kick

Soccer+Season+is+a+Kick

Ball High is making a meaningful impact in our community by supporting local efforts to beatify our beaches. The Tor Soccer Program was invited to participate alongside the JROTC in their annual Adapt-A-Beach Cleanup Project on September 23rd. We had a great turnout of young men and women, taking time out of their busy lives to give back to Galveston. This was the first of three service projects that the soccer program will be a part of this year. As a leader, I want to instill in our young athletes the responsibility and obligation we have to give back to the city for supporting us during the season and throughout the year in Tor Athletics.

Looking forward to our season, I am impressed with the talent and work ethic my players have demonstrated this off season. Our athletes are beginning to buy into the changes that are being implemented within the program that will in return make for a breakthrough year. The team vision this year is to compete with any team that steps onto the pitch and show them that Tor soccer is back. We will not back down or play timidly to any team in the area and have entered all available local tournaments to establish our presence early.
We expect to turn some heads this year in district play and make playoffs. Several returning varsity players, like seniors Emerson Cortez, Bryan Escobar, Isaias Hohl, Chase Monsrud, Jefry Hernandez, and Joshua Dohring, should provide a strong on the field leadership presence. We also have some emerging talent from underclassman like Angel Urbina, Jairo Bailon, and Kai Streckenbach that will sustain the program into the future.

Finally, we are so excited to be playing in our newly remodeled Courville Stadium this season. Our kids deserve the opportunity to be showcased to visitors from off the island that come to enjoy GISD athletic events like football and soccer. I want this season to feel like a continuation of a great year set forth by the football team and our fine art programs playing there during the fall. This winter, we plan on inviting local elementary students to join us pregame, have programs like the Tornettes, Cheer, Band, Hispanic Dance, JROTC and of course the student body in order to bring the stadium to life all season long!
