The Tor baseball team traveled to Manvel Friday, but headed home an hour later when the stadium lights malfunctioned. The Tors returned to Manvel Saturday and won a hard fought come from behind win to defeat Manvel 7-3 on Saturday and sweep the two-game series from the Highway 6 rivals after taking game one 3-2.
Coupled with Santa Fe’s sweep of Friendswood, the Tors sit atop District 5A tied for first with Santa Fe a 3-1 record. Texas City and Friendswood are tied for second at 2-2 while Laporte and Angleton sit at 1-3. Manvel brings up the rear at 0-2.
For the Tors, Austin Raines pitched Tuesday and Norman Jackson took the mound on Saturday. Ace reliever Jonah Williams closed both games for the first place Tors.
The Tors have won seven of their past eight games to catapult into first place in District 5A.
Tuesday night the Tors traveled to LaPort to take on the Bulldogs in a District 5A game and came up on the short end of a 1-0 score. Righthander Austin Raines kept the Bulldogs in check with the help of a few stellar plays by the Tor defenders, A sixth inning rally was cut short when the Tors ran themselves out of an inning by bath path miscue.
The Tors will battle the Bulldogs Thursday at Tor Field at 6 p.m. as they try to climb back into first place in District 5A.
