    The+Art+of+Devaluation

As the value of the peso has depreciated due to inflation, many Argentinians are angered as they find it hard to keeping their lives together as such an excessive cost. Over the past year, the peso has depreciated by 60% compared to the American dollar.

A group of artists decided to produce a way to make the soon to be useless bill worth something. Artists have been painting on pesos to sell to help fight inflation affecting their lives.  Sergio Diaz, an artist who paints on pesos, sells his artwork for 40,000 to 70,000 pesos, and ranges up to $300 USD.

“There is an element of transgression, of vandalism… but my idea is to go beyond that and transform the bills while addressing the issue of inflation that affects us all,” Diaz addresses about the idea of painting on money.
